Skin Testing

Allergy skin prick testing (sometimes called “scratch testing”) is useful in the diagnosis of allergies and is relatively easy. We can test for various environmental allergens (pollens, animals, dust mite and molds), foods or penicillin. The test involves light pokes on the back with plastic (NO NEEDLES!) and might feel like a toothpick. It can get itchy on the areas of positive reactions, but is usually not painful. Results are available in 15-20 minutes. Testing is typically done on the back but is sometimes done on the arms. Testing can be performed on any age of patient. Some medicines can interfere with testing, please check with our office before your appointment.
