Many patients have wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, cough and difficulty with exercise. We help determine which patients may be suffering from asthma, which involves inflammation of the airways, and help get your symptoms under control. Many patients with symptoms have been misdiagnosed as asthma without the proper evaluation. We focus on accurate diagnosis of asthma.
Evaluation for asthma always starts with a detailed history and a breathing test called spirometry. To evaluate for allergic triggers, allergy testing is usually helpful. Once the diagnosis of asthma has been confirmed, we can investigate for rare causes and prescribe appropriate treatments. Common therapies include medications, inhalers and in severe cases, biologic therapies such as Xolair.
